Abstract

The objective of this study is to develop an active power control of Photovoltaic power generation (PV) system for supporting grid frequency regulation in two different forms, i.e. slow frequency control contributing to load – frequency control and fast frequency control contributing to inertial response of synchronous generators. An active power control in two different forms is implemented simultaneously by using different active power – frequency droop characteristics and frequency measurement methods. In addition, in order to stabilize voltage level of utility grid, reactive power output is regulated based on voltage – reactive power droop control. The performance of the developed control method is tested in an experimental setup consisting of PV simulator, voltage source, and resistance load. As a result, the proposed active power control in two different forms performs independently to respond the slow and fast frequency change without affecting each other.
