Abstract
Thermal field jumps in 6.5 mm thick sapphire single-crystal ribbons have been observed recently and were found to be due to non-uniformities of the radiative heat flux in the crystal. The reason of these non-uniformities is, however, still unclear. Here, we present new temperature distribution measurements in sapphire ribbons. The relationship between the jump amplitudes and the bubble incorporation ratio is established for sapphire single-crystal ribbons of 38×6.5 mm in size.
