Abstract

ABB Lummus-Crest initiated an experimental investigation to systematically study the capacity of baffles and internals (henceforth called baffles) of various designs to break bubbles in a moderately sized cold unit at reasonably high gas velocities. The experimental conditions chosen and the baffle designs are believed to approach the hydrodynamic conditions of many commercial bubbling beds more closely than did earlier studies. Preliminary results, describing the designs of experimental baffles and their impact on bubble growth, are presented
