Abstract
Characterization methodology and in-depth understanding of the head-disk interface at 5-15 nm head-disk spacing are of great importance in achieving robust recording systems towards 40GB/in2 areal densities. This paper reports a novel tester setup for nano-spacing head-disk interface study, experimental investigations into both the slider vibration when the slider is partially contacting the disk surface and the relationship between the vibration and lubricant. A model is proposed, based on experimental observations, for the nano-spacing head disk interface.
