Abstract

The potential fluctuations of iron in various NaCl concentrations were experimentally studied and analysed. It was found through this study that the chloride ion attack has a reaction order of 2. The peak potential was found to follow the logarithm of the chloride ion concentration, the same form as that for the pitting potential. The condition for the transition from unstable to stable pits was also estimated. The spatial distribution of pits was found to follow a Poisson distribution function.
