Abstract

This paper aims to evaluate the impact response of the multi-core composite sandwich panels from low-velocity experiments. Geometrical parameters of sandwich panels like cell size, cell height, and facesheet thickness are varied and their effect on peak load, energy absorption, and efficiency is reported in this article. The effect of impact energy variation ongraded and non-graded types of sandwich panels is also studied. Based on these experiments suitable recommendations are given for impact energy absorber applications. From a crashworthiness point of view, graded multi-core composite sandwich panels are found to be more effective than non-graded ones.
