Abstract

The effect of ammonia as a reactive coolant in porous body cooling was studied experimentally. Energy rejection to the ammonia coolant flowing through an electrically heated porous nichrome plate was measured. The energy absorption due to ammonia dissociation was determined and was found to account for up to 65 percent of the total energy absorption. System variables were chosen to be in the range of interest to transpiration cooling applications.
