Abstract

Burrs are plastically deformed projected materials attached to an edge, and are generated during machining and other processes. Burrs should be removed for smooth assembly operations and handling of the job. Chemical deburring may be employed for low alloy steel and aluminium alloy using nitric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions respectively as chemicals. In the present work, holes are first drilled on low alloy steel and aluminium plates when burrs are formed around the hole at the exit surface. These are dipped into respective solution to keep for few minutes for deburring. Burrs are removed completely after some time, and some thickness loss of the base metal is also occurred. Detailed results and discussion are given in the paper.
