Abstract
About 2-½ years ago the Army's Engineer Topographic Laboratories and Defense Mapping Agency began developing a digital image processing system for use in map making. Today that system, if it has not yet supplanted conventional approaches to map making, has nevertheless demonstrated the feasibility of digital techniques in photo-interpretation, stereo compilation, and automated cartography.
