Abstract

AbstractExplosive forming is an unconventional technique, in which a fluid is used as the pressure transmission medium. To optimise the forming process, knowledge of material behaviour under very high pressures and deformation rates are required. Deformation modelling, numerical simulation, and experimental analysis of copper plates subjected to shock‐wave loading are reported in this study. The Limaitre‐Chaboche viscoplastic constitutive law [7] is used and combined with a geometrically non‐linear shell model. The aim of this research is to propose an appropriate mechanical model and to develop an experimental set‐up to predict the material forming behaviour by simulation.
