Abstract

Abstract The performance of 10 rats with bilateral hippocampal damage, 10 rats with bilateral neocortical lesions, and 10 normal rats was compared on 3 different passive avoidance problems. The results indicated that the hippocampectomized rats were only deficient in the ability to inhibit a trained response as opposed to a spontaneous response, regardless of the number of training trials or motivational level.
