Abstract

This paper reports on the results of a follow-up study to The Uncertain Profession: Observations on the State of Museum Education in Twenty American Art Museums (Eisner & Dobbs, 1986), an evaluation of art museum education practices from nearly a decade ago. Eisner and Dobbs' findings were controversial because they were critical of the state of the art museum education profession in general. In this follow-up report it was found that there have been significant changes in art museum education since 1984, when the Eisner and Dobbs study began, although many of the same problems are still being addressed.
