Abstract
This paper reports on a new approach to solve the short-term operation planning problem of hydrothermal power systems. It uses evolution strategies to determine the optimal schedules of all hydroelectric and thermal power plants in a closed optimization. A decomposition of the optimization problem is not necessary. Numerical experiments show, that the proposed method is able to solve the complex nonlinear optimization problem with its wealth of constraints in acceptable computation time.
