Abstract

We describe an event generator to simulate small-pt events in ultrarelativistic proton-proton collisions. We assume two independent processes: formation of color strings consisting of partons from projectile and target, and eventually fragmentation of strings into observable hadrons. We make use of the quark counting rules to determine elementary fragmentation vertices. The fragmentation procedure with the same parameters is also used to simulate e+e−, vp, and v̄p, and μp collisions. We compare mean multiplicities and longitudinal momentum distributions of produced particles for these different types of collisions at CM energies up to 30 GeV for leptonic collisions and up to 540 GeV for pp collisions.
