Abstract
Evidence is presented that suggests the present format of the answer sheet for the Vocational Preference Inventory (VPI) is incompatible with the expectations of its users. Two population stereotypes are currently violated: (1) The majority of people expect response choices to be arranged sequentially in rows from left to right, whereas items on the VPI answer sheet are organized in columns; (2) the majority of people prefer to delete undesired responses, whilst the VPI requires the deletion of intended answers.
