Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the implementation and evaluation of a neonatal nursing intraventricular haemorrhage (IVH) care bundle, to determine areas for improvement in clinical practice. Overall, nurses felt confident in their knowledge about the implementation of the intraventricular haemorrhage care bundle and felt their nursing practice had changed as a result. An increase in nursing workload was reported by some which is exacerbated by shortages of neonatal nurses in the United Kingdom and should be considered during implementation. A cohesive teaching package with areas of ongoing learning is vital to avoid any confusion in the clinical setting, with guidelines and information packs available to staff. Nursing staff had an overall positive experience with the implementation of the intraventricular haemorrhage prevention care bundle and felt it significantly benefits neonates at risk of intraventricular haemorrhage and brings change in practice.
