Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research paper is to use the fundamental principles of economics, finance, and international business to evaluate the populist 2016 U.S. Presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders, given the surprising popularity and endurance of his primary campaign battle against Hillary Clinton, to become the nominee of the Democratic Party for the general election against the Republican Party nominee, Donald Trump. This paper will rely on a variety of high-quality sources of information, including peer-reviewed journal articles, the Presidential campaign website of Bernie Sanders, and headline news articles. This research is expected to discover why Bernie Sanders became such a popular and enduring candidate, to determine whether his campaign promises seemed good economically, financially, and internationally, and to determine whether he could have delivered on his promises if he had become the next President of the United States. Keywords Bernie Sanders, U.S. 2016 Presidential Campaign, Economic Principles, Financial Principles, International Business, International Trade, U.S. Government Policies, U.S. Economy, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump
