Abstract

Summary This study was undertaken to evaluate parents' response to the ‘management approach’ in treating their cerebral palsied children as promoted by the community paediatric physiotherapists in two inner city health authorities. A questionnaire was designed to collect data about parents' responses to carrying out the home programmes themselves and physiotherapists' promotion of the management approach. It was completed by 23 families of pre-school age children with cerebral palsy. Findings indicate that, while there is much progress toward involving parents in the management of their children, there is much more to be done to reinforce the collaborative role in therapy and to integrate therapy into activites of daily living.
