Abstract

The most popular welding technique for welding aluminium and aluminium alloys is Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). It enables the removal of oxide layer formed on it, and also the extent of achieving clean defect free welds. The weld joint is largely depending upon the different types of power supply (DCEP/DCEN/AC) which can be used for welding, a welding speed and a different type of shielding gas used. These parameters determine the accuracy and efficiency of the welding. This paper deals with the review of various parameters on which weld quality depends, and the influence of welding parameters like power supply, welding speed, shielding gas on mechanical properties of the weldment. The present study investigates the welding parameters like types of power supply, a welding speed and different types of shielding gas on influence of weldability of 5052 aluminium alloy. A systematic approach (Taguchi method) has been followed to achieve the better weld results. A software (Minitab) has been used to optimize the weld quality with respect to corresponding welding parameters.
