Abstract

SUMMARY Eighty-two patients, receiving a narcotic and hyoscine premedication before general anaesthesia consisting of sodium thiopentone, halothane, nitrous oxide and oxygen for the performance of minor gynaecological surgery, were studied to assess the value of metoclopramide (Maxolon) as an anti-emetic. There was no significant difference in the occurrence of postoperative nausea and vomiting between two similar groups of patients, one receiving metoclopramide and the other a saline placebo.
