Abstract

Abstract In this study, the application of the mathematical model proposed by Andreadakis and Cailas to experimental data obtained in the treatment of domestic sewage is examined. A single-stage laboratory scale unit of an anaerobic rotating biological contactor (AnRBC) was used in the studies to produce kinetic parameters for the Andreadakis and Cailas model. The results demonstrated that a simple Monod-type expression can satisfactorily simulate the performance of an anaerobic rotating biological contactor and the model maintains its validity even with high-strength domestic wastewater.
