Abstract

The large time increment method as proposed in Boisse et al. A new large time increment algorithm for anisotropic plasticity. I.U.T.A.M /I.C.M. Symp. Yielding, Damage and Failure of Anisotropic Solids, 1987; and on a class of large time increment algorithms. In: Proc. Numeta, Swansea, 1987, is reviewed and evaluated in the context of elasto-plasticity. The formulation and implementation of the method has been examined with the intention of applying it to rigid-plasticity problems. It has been concluded that while this novel algorithm provides an effective alternative to the classical step by step method, and has been reported to achieve significant time-saving, it is not well suited to the case of rigid-plastic problems in which the convenient formulation is presented in the current configuration.
