Abstract

We express the gas desorption in a high-energy electron or positron storage ring in terms of the photoemission and the electron-induced gas-desorption yields of the vacuum-chamber material. The derived expression is used to estimate the gas desorption in the two main damping rings of the Next Linear Collider (NLC) and, in particular, its dependence on the height of the slots which connect the beam pipe proper to an antechamber.
