Abstract

The nonlinear random response of composite plates to the simultanously applied, combined acoustic and thermal loads is investigated in this paper. A finite element formulation for the nonlinear random response is developed. The three-node Mindlin plate element with improved transverse shear is extended and employed. The acoustic load can be normal incidence or grazing incidence. An interesting observationis that the antisymmetric modes are participated in the response of the plate for grazing incident acoustic wave. The numerical results feature grazing incidence, nonuniform temperature distribution, initial imperfection and skewed planform.
