Abstract

Measurements of fission gas release ( R) from UN nuclear fuel are correlated to average fuel temperature ( T), atom percent burnup ( B) and theoretical density (TD) using the following equation which properly describes the boundary conditions: R = 100 [exp(0.0025{ 90TD 0.77 B 0.09−T} ) + 1] . An equation of this form, when applied to the various published data sets and compared to the other published equations, has a lower standard deviationi regardless of the data set used. However, the predicted behavior depends more strongly on the data set than on the form of the equation.
