Abstract

AbstractIn this letter, a passive RFID transponder based on an enhancement mode pseudomorphic HEMT (EpHEMT) is proposed. Taking advantage of the slightly positive threshold voltage of this transistor technology, a dual‐function detector/mixer circuit with good RF‐to‐DC and frequency conversion efficiency has been designed. Such structure has been integrated in a conveniently designed aperture coupled patch, configuring the complete tag unit. On reception of an interrogating signal, the detector switches on the data generator circuit, being the information signal up‐converted near the interrogating frequency band through an optimized drain mixing configuration. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
