Abstract
This work describes COPS, an environment for distributed problem solving in networks of heterogeneous computers. COPS is intended for problems with coarse grains of parallelism. Communication among processes is by messages. A modified production system model permits rule-based blackboards to be constructed. Ambassadors are used to provide remote processes with access to blackboards.
