Abstract

The entire undergraduate geology curriculum at Olivet Nazarene College has been modified to the concept of meeting explicit educational goals and objectives. The system clarifies the student's responsibility in a course, permits rapid restudy, aids evaluation by faculty and outside organizations and allows for easy reorganization of courses. A disadvantage of the method is an unavoidably high initial investment of faculty time. Some critics feel that students and faculty may be stifled in their interest and enthusiasm. This criticism may be overcome by creative teaching methods. The system is recommended as an effective approach to teaching.
