Abstract

This work has permitted the establishment of an isotopic reference material (CBNM IRM-015) of enriched 6Li in addition to the already existing natural Li isotopic reference material. It was characterized by thermal ionization mass spectrometry measurements and calibration of these measurements by means of synthetic 6Li and 7Li isotope mixtures. The approach implies a very reproducible mesurement technique for 6Li/ 7Li isotope abundance ratios, which in view of the potential large mass discrimination is not a trivial matter. The CBNM IRM-015 is a 95.6% enriched 6Li material and is supplied with an atomic isotope ratio certified as 6Li/ 7Li = 21.78 ± 0.12 (on a 2 s basis).
