Abstract

Developing efficient interfacing technologies for the renewable energy source are promising research area now days. The interfacing unit becomes crucial as renewable energy sources when directly connected to grid, can inject harmonic components that may deteriorate the quality of power. This paper proposes a shunt active filter as an interface between renewable energy sources and grid with a modified and efficient control scheme. The shunt active filter with this modified controller controls the real power supplied by the grid (source) to load and remaining load requirements is supported by the renewable energy source in addition to its regular functions such as harmonic current elimination, reactive power compensation and power factor correction. In this paper two types of nonlinear loads are considered and simulated for analyzing the effectiveness of control algorithm to achieve the real power sharing from renewable energy source, grid along with harmonic elimination, reactive power compensation and power factor correction using shunt active filter interface.
