Abstract

In Delay Tolerant Mobile Sensor Networks (DTMSNs), it is a key topic how to save node energy and prolong network life while gathering data from nodes to the sink node. In this paper, we propose an Energy-efficient DAta Gathering (EDAG) protocol tailed for DTMSNs. Different from the existing works, EDAG takes use of the two measures as follows: firstly, the proposed protocol calculates the delivery probability of each node based on both the frequency, which the node meets with the sink, and its mobility trend, secondly, EDAG extends the eyeshot for each node to look for next hop through finding and using the connected paths formed dynamically by mobile sensor nodes. Simulation results have shown that the proposed EDAG achieves the higher or comparable message delivery ratio with the lower transmission overhead than some main data delivering approaches for DTMSNs. What's more, EDAG own high energy-efficient feature and can remarkably prolong network life, which make it well adaptive to the challenging environments of DTMSNs.
