Abstract

A semester-long team project is described for Freshman Engineering Design. The project utilizes the EPA Energy Star Buildings protocol to conduct energy analyses of buildings and prepare design recommendations for cost-effective, energy-efficient building upgrades. The design recommendations were implemented by the University of Virginia's (UVa) Facilities Management and the class was cited by the US Environmental Protection Agency in naming UVa the 1999 Green Lights Education Partner of the Year.
