Abstract

A photocatalytic self-cleaning coating was developed, which can continuously remove NO under illumination and dark. It also can autonomously recover hydrophobicity and NO purification function by photocatalysis. The adsorption behaviors of NO and H2O on the coating surface were simulated. H2O molecules were preferentially adsorbed relative to NO, indicating that humidity had an adverse effect on NO purification. The statistical analysis of NO concentration in the tunnel showed that this coating effectively improved the air quality in the open space. This study provides an energy-saving and effective way to control air pollution and promote the green development of highway tunnels.
