Abstract

We demonstrate the effectiveness of utilizing a publish/subscribe messaging model as connection means for indoor localization utilizing Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) through a middleware. The middleware ultimately gives security and liveness characteristic, for example, ensured delivery of every single published message to all subscribers of transmission channel and the right processing of subscription and unsubscriptions, while no error happens. In this paper, we proposed an energy-aware platform for indoor tracking using Receive Signal Strength (RSS) based on RTPS. RSS is an algorithm used to provide RSSI measurements between the publishers and predefined location and fixed nodes named anchors, then convert these RSS values to distance to be used with trilateration method to calculate the position of all publishers in the study area. The coordinates of all publishers are transmitted using multi-hop protocol to the desired subscriber. The performance metrics used with this model are the accuracy and the power consumption, the results showed that RSS get a good accuracy acceptable for a different types of applications, in other hand RSS showed a stable and less power consumption.
