Abstract

Using dimensional analysis, the dimensional equations for the estimation of soil properties after dynamic compaction (DC) in loess ground are established. Based on these equations and field data obtained from previous practices of DC, the equations are fitted relating soil properties after DC with construction parameters, soil properties before tamping, and even with the surficial deformation during tamping. Finally, the equations are verified by several project examples, and the results indicate that the calculated results agree well with the field measured results. These equations provide a practical way for the prediction of the soil properties after DC for loess.
