Abstract

Requirement engineering is an essential ingredient of software production and first level of software development life cycle (SDLC). In product quality perspective, Requirement Elicitation is a difficult and critical task. Different requirement practices have deep relationship with successful projects. This study aims to find out the procedures of requirement elicitation and management in Pakistan's software industry. This document is trying to report some provisions of processes and software products. Our investigations were carried out by a well-known software company of Lahore, Pakistan. We have investigated the company's requirement engineering processes on the basis of best practices of elicitation, requirement analysis, requirement description, system modelling, requirement validation and requirement management. Our findings walked us towards the investigation of best practices used in requirement engineering process. We observed how these practices are implemented and at which level these are being followed by software industry. The aftermaths of questionnaire are critically evaluated and examined to highlight what practices and standards of requirement engineering are being followed. It is observed that most requirement problems that are faced by company are organizational not rather than technical.
