Abstract

The purpose of the research was to investigate the previously discovered negative linear relationship between communication apprehension and tolerance of ambiguity. The authors took exception to the notion that a simple negative correlation reflected the true nature of the relationship. Instead, they hypothesized that the reported correlation would hold primarily for those with high communication apprehension and that because of this fact, a quadratic rather than linear explanation of the relationship would be more realistic.
