Abstract

Based upon the strategic information systems planning (SISP) and contingency theories, a mediating model was developed to investigate the direct and indirect effects of top management support on SISP success. The model was tested using partial least squares analysis on a sample of 57 information systems executives from US organisations. Top management support was found to influence SISP success both directly and indirectly through the information systems plan usefulness, but not through the information technology (IT) infrastructure flexibility. The former was found, as predicted, to be a significant mediator of the effects of top management support on SISP success. By contrast, IT infrastructure flexibility was not found to be a significant mediator.
