Abstract

An empirical equation of quartz solubility in NaCl solution (up to 20 NaCl wt%) is obtained from the experimental results of Anderson and Burnham (1967), Novgorodov (1978), Hemley et al. (1980), and Fournier (1983). These experiments covered the pressures of 200 to 3000 bars and temperatures of 200° to 700° C. This study first obtains an empirical equation showing the ratio of quartz solubility in NaCl solution to the solubility in pure water under the same pressure-temperature condition, and then obtains the solubility equation by modifying the equation of Von Damm et al. (1991).
