Abstract

An analysis of the data of Achong and Stahl (1984) discloses discrete intervals which differ significantly in SID flare incidence and the proportion of complex sunspot groups present. This supports the alternative interpretation of Sawyer et al. (1985) in respect of the strong dependence of SID flare production on complex magnetic class.
