Abstract

This paper reports some general results that can be drawn from an empirical analysis of twelve cases of technology transfer in Italian industry. The cases involved small and medium size industrial firms in various sectors: metal working, plastics, electronics, informatics, leather. For each sector there is one company of Northern Italy and one of Southern Italy(Mezzogiorno)at least, in order to show the different problems encountered in the process of technology transfer, in different environment(industrial, social, cultural, etc.). From the results of the case studies it is possible to outline some general characteristics of the process of technology transfer, which can be used as a fundamental input for planning and designing technology transfer centers which have to operate in a low industrialized environment.
