Abstract
Abstract A technique for the non-destructive separation of granular mixed solids is described. Surface active additives are used so that different species acquire opposite electrical charges and may be collected on counter-electrodes by elecrophoresis. Voltage gradients of 4000 volts/cm are employed but the unit detailed is battery driven, safe, compact and portable. The highly-resistive dispersion liquid is non-toxic and non-inflammable, and the equipment could be readily scaled up for industrial applications.
