Abstract

Abstract Subjective ratings of fruit and tree characteristics were taken with a Datamyte, Dak, 8 electronic data acquisition unit for apples, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Up to 40 characteristics were rated (0 to 9) for each cultivar, selection or seedling. The data was field recorded on magnetic tape cassettes and processed to punched paper tape and a printout via a coupler and a teletype terminal. The punched paper tape was used to access a computer for analysis and generation of a printout. The system offers flexibility and speed in data acquisition and retrieval. A thorough understanding of potential electronic problems is necessary to maximize efficiency of use.
