Abstract

The dynamical matrix is split into ionic and electronic parts. Ionic elements of the matrix have been obtained considering purely central forces up to the fourth neighbour and the electronic elements have been derived following Bhatia's (1955) work on cubic metals. Phonon dispersion relations and the lattice specific heats have been computed for gadolinium and dysprosium. Lattice specific heats have been compared with the experimental data.
