Abstract

Abstract This paper describes a new tensile connection for transmitting tensile forces to triaxial test specimens. Comparative tests show that the loading and frequency characteristics of this electromagnetic connection are considerably better than those of commercially available screw and vacuum type connections. This means that two-way cyclic triaxial tests can be controlled with much greater precision. Also the procedures for specimen preparation are considerably simplified.
