Abstract

A general election may be just around the corner. What role will midwives and the NHS have in the election campaign? While the NHS was generally considered to be part of the post-war consensus, with backing from both Conservative and Labour governments, financial constraints and the introduction of market philosophies in the 1970s and 1980s generated significant political divisions.
