Abstract

This paper suggests an electrolytic capacitorless on-board charger for electric vehicles. It has the cascade structure of a constant frequency resonant converter for electrical isolation and a discontinuous conduction mode boost converter for charging control and input harmonic regulation. To obtain a high power factor, the harmonic modulation technique is also proposed. The proposed charger uses a very simple algorithm to achieve harmonic regulation and charging control. Its feasibility has been verified with a 3-kW prototype.
