Abstract

For any industrial control process the Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) controller is in wide use with its ease structure and fine parameter tuning. Increase in complexity of control applications leads to development of the Fractional Order with Proportional Integral Derivative (FO-PID) type controller, as the integral and the derivative terms were in fractional order rather than integer. Along with PID tuning parameters FO-PID tuning includes new two parameters for integer order and derivative order as λ and µ respectively. In this manuscript, FO-PID controller has been applied to liquid level control of three tank system. This gives an efficient performance improvement of the process when compared with conventional P-I-D controller.
