Abstract

DMB is a newly upcoming standard in Korea, which has been recently drafted and is ready to be verified in order to deploy mobile multimedia broadcasting services to the public. Employed on the Eureka-147 DAB system basis, this system incorporates the MPEG-4 audiovisual codec, the MPEG-4 system, and the MPEG-2 system. However, the current approach for transporting MPEG-4 contents over the DMB network is not optimized for mobile TV services. To address this issue we propose an alternative framework by establishing a novel multiplexer called 'M4SMux' and replacing the MPEG-2 system layer, which gives advantages like (1) overhead reduction, and (2) implementation of a light and simple DMB system. The performance of the proposed architecture is shown by the comparison of simulation results in respect of the overhead.
