Abstract

This paper presents a HGBC (High Gain Boost Converter) integrated with solar PV (Photovoltaic) array for water pumping system utilizing SRM (Switched Reluctance Motor) drive. The proposed DC-DC converter has approximately double the voltage gain with better conversion performance and power density as compared to classical boost converter. In addition, the proposed converter has good capability to minimize the ripple in panel current and so the size of PV output capacitor. Moreover, the CICM (Continuous Inductor Current Mode) of a DC-DC converter enhances the performance of overall system. The mid-point converter of SRM is commutated with PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) technique to regulate the speed of drive and thus avoiding the need of any complex control or current sensors at motor side. The proposed system has also the capability to manually set the speed of drive by just changing the duty cycle of proposed HG (High Gain) boost converter using implemented MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controller. The effectiveness of proposed system is examined through the behavior of proposed system indices at various conditions, which verify its appropriateness for solar powered water pump.
